The European Capital of Culture 2010 is a network of 53 cities in the Ruhr area. It is a change from a mining and industrial area called "Ruhrpott" to a cultural metropolis. Entire industrial areas have been turned into cultural centres and are now offering space for 200 museums and 120 theaters.
